KATHMANDU: The Constitutional Council (CC) meeting, which was held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar on Tuesday, concluded without recommending a new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The selection of the Chief Justice was a prominent item on the agenda during the meeting. However, further discussion is deemed necessary, leading to the adjournment of the meeting.

Chairman of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, stated that the Council will reconvene at 5 o’clock on August 3 to continue the deliberations.

The tenure of Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki is coming to an end on August 5 due to the age limit, and the constitutional provision requires the recommendation for the new Chief Justice to be made one month prior.

At present, Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha holds the top position in the roll order of the Supreme Court.
