Province-1 named “Koshi Pradesh”



KATHMANDU: Province-1 has been named “Koshi Pradesh”.

The State Assembly of Province-1 named the province as “Koshi Pradesh” on Wednesday evening.

Earlier, proposal on naming Province-1 was presented at the Province Assembly meeting on Wednesday.

As per Rule 58 (b) of Province Assembly Regulation, 2074 (first amendment) which follows Article 295 (2) of Constitution of Nepal, the Province Assembly proposed the name ‘Koshi’ for Province-1.

Province Assembly member of ruling CPN UML, Ram Bahadur Magar, presented the proposal bearing the province name ‘Koshi’ before Speaker Baburam Gautam.

The Speaker again presented the proposal for the discussion which was accepted by the majority of Assembly members.

On the occasion, Province Assembly member of CPN (US), Rajendra Kumar Rai, presented the proposal bearing the province name ‘Kirat-Limbuwan-Sagarmatha’, which however was denied by the majority of members.

Similarly, those for the endorsed proposal were Bhupendra Rai of NC, Rewati Raman Bhandari of UML and Gopal Bishwokarma of RPP while those for the disapproved proposal were Indra Bahadur Angbo of CPN (Maoist Centre), and Nirmala Limbu of JSP.

The discussion on the proposal of naming Province-1 as ‘Koshi Province’ was over recently.

Speaker Gautam had given two hours for the amendment of proposal. The Province Assembly will be meeting again to decide on the proposal.
