Striving to protect Constitution and system has put country at stake: Former King Gyanendra



KATHMANDU: Former King Gyanendra Shah has raised serious concern over the existing constitution and system of Nepal while making public his views on the occasion of the Dashain festival.

In his message, Shah has raised the issues of nationality, citizenship, foreign policy, divisive politics and corruption.

Former King Shah claimed that the Nepali people were looking for guardianship.

“Trying to protect the existing constitution and system has put the country’s sovereignty and independence at stake,” he said.

“We believe that the country should never be defeated by any of our actions,” he said in the message adding, “May Nava Durga Bhawani gives us the inspiration to fulfill the specific desires of patriotic Nepalis who are united for the protection of the nation, democracy, and fundamental values unity.”

Former King Shah also raised the issue of corruption, which he claimed, has made society and the system more corrupt.

“What will happen to the state of the country and the condition of the people when parties are power-centered and are engaged in fulfilling their vested interests?” he queried.

He said that the people and the country are looking for the right system, organization, or a representation that is loyal to the country and responsible to the people.
