KATHMANDU: Three contenders from the Nepali Congress (NC) have presented a challenge to CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli in the latter’s electoral constituency of Jhapa-5 in the November 20 elections.
KhagenKdra Adhikari, who was defeated by Oli in last elections, former Nepal Students Union Vice President Medni Sitaula and Bishwadeep Lingden have claimed their candidacy in Oli-‘s constituency Jhapa-5.
Resigning from his teaching profession at Tri Chandra Campus, Adhikari battled with Oli in the last election in Jhapa-5. He is close to the NC establishment faction.
Likewise, Sitaula, who leads NC’s Dr Shekhar Koirala faction in Jhapa, has increased his activism in Jhapa-5. He has been doing politics from the NC for the past 35 years. He held various positions in various organizations of the party.
Sitaula is also being supported by NC General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma.
Lastly, NC General Convention delegate Lingden is also in the mood to compete with Oli in the House of Representatives elections from Jhapa-5.
Lingden left the Maoist Center and joined the Congress in 2017. Lingden defeated Oli from the Maoist Center in Jhapa-5 in 2007.
He has recently been nominated as a central member of Federation of Democratic Indigenous Nationalities of Nepal.
