Habeas corpus petition on Oli’s arrest assigned to Justice Meghraj Pokharel

KATHMANDU : A habeas corpus petition filed against the arrest of former prime minister and chair of the CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has been assigned to the bench of Supreme Court Justice Meghraj Pokharel.

The petition was registered on Sunday by Oli’s wife Radhika Shakya following his arrest on Saturday.

The petition claims that the decision to arrest and detain Oli solely on the basis of a report prepared by an investigation commission is unlawful.

It argues that arresting a person merely on the basis of recommendations or reports from an inquiry body does not meet the legal standards required for detention.
