NC leader Koirala bats for electoral alliance for upcoming election

MORANG: Nepali Congress (NC) central committee member Sujata Koirala has said that the ruling coalition parties should forge an electoral alliance for the upcoming local level election. The local level election is slated on May 30 this year in a single phase.

Speaking at the press conference organized by the Girija Prasad Koirala Foundation in Morang Wednesday, leader Koirala reiterated the need for forging alliances among the coalition partners for the protection of democracy and political stability.

The former Deputy Prime Minister viewed that the NC-led government was formed in wake of the restoration of the House of Representatives (HoR) twice at the behest of the coalition and, thus argued, NC should not only take into account its interest. She stressed the need for all the party cadres and leaders to move ahead following the decisions of the party’s central working committee.

Furthermore, Koirala emphasized electoral alliance among the current coalition partners for the NC to hold the reign of the government yet again. She assured that institutional development of democracy, employment growth and social transformation would be achieved through the coalition government.

On a different note, she clarified that she did not have any role in defeating Dr. Shekhar Koirala in the recently held NC’s 14th national convention. Koirala, on the occasion, announced her candidacy in the first-past-the-post category from constituency no 2 in the upcoming parliamentary election.
