Four held for selling customs-evaded liquor in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested four persons on the charge of smuggling liquor from India to Nepal and selling the illegally procured liquor in Kathmandu Valley.

The arrested have been identified as Chandra Bakhrel, 31, a resident of Parsa residing in Budhanilkantha, ​​Kathmandu; Shailesh Pant, 30, of Kageshwari Manhara Municipality-6, Kathmandu; Rabin Pakhrin, 28, of Parsa currently living in Handigaun, Kathmandu, and Narayan Prasad Ghimire, 38, of Sarlahi, living in Chabahil at present.

Police said 296 cartons of liquor, including Red label, Absolute Vodka, Chivas Regal, among other liquors. smuggled from India worth around Rs 14 million were recovered from various places in Kathmandu such as Baneshwor, Kapan, Ramkot and other areas.

The seized liquor was sent to Department of Revenue Investigation at Harihar Bhawan for quality inspection.

Police investigation revealed that as per Bakhrel’s plan, various brands of liquor was brought to the country by evading customs and sold in Nepal.
