NC delegation led by PM Deuba reaches Sheetal Niwas to meet the President
In an attempt to find ways to bridge the widening gap on the Citizenship Bill between the Nepali Congress (NC)-led coalition government and President Bidya Devi Bhandari, NC leaders, including Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, have reached Sheetal Niwal to meet the President.
The distance between the government and Sheetal Niwas increased after President Bidya Devi Bhandari put the Citizenship Bill on hold for 15 days and sent it back after it was passed by both houses of the Federal Parliament, the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
A team led by Prime Minister and NC President Deuba, including Vice Presidents Purna Bahadur Khadka, Dhanraj Gurung, General Secretary Gagan Thapa, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, among others, have reached at Sheetal Niwas for discussion.
According to Baluwatar sources, the NC team will request President Bhandari to validate the Citizenship Bill. The NC is going to inform the President that holding the Citizenship Bill could impact the election environment adversely. Although the bill was passed by the National Assembly, after the President signaled that it would be put on hold, NC started taking steps to validate the bill.
Nepali Ambassador to India Dr Sharma holds talks with Indian Home Minister Amit Shah
Nepali Ambassador to India Dr Shankar Sharma has held talks with Indian Home Minister Amit Shah.
Ambassador Sharma reached the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi to meet Home Minister Shah on Monday. The two are said to have discussed various bilateral issues in the meeting.
The progress of Government of India-funded projects also figured in the meeting, according to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.
Voter list updating program commences
The Election Commission has launched a voter list updating program for the November 20 elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly.
The EC published collected details of voters at ward level on Sunday. Thereafter, the designated official to register voters list will allocate time to make claim and objection over the electoral roll.
Under this, things like correction of errors in details on the electoral roll, removal of names from the voters list, change of address and polling stations and removal of duplicate names will take place.
Former Judges Forum submits four-point letter as evidence for CJ Rana’s impeachment
The Former Judges Forum has submitted a four-point letter to the parliamentary Impeachment Recommendation Committee as evidence for the impeachment of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.
The former judges have demanded an investigation into the case of Ranjan Prasad Koirala by going through case-related documents of the Supreme Court.
They have also said a statement issued by them two years ago should be considered as a basis to impeach CJ Rana.
The former judges urged the impeachment panel to study a statement issued by them on October 22, 2021, expressing concerned about the injustice, distortion and inconsistency of the judiciary.
They also stressed expert investigation into the irregularities in the construction of buildings, including the Supreme Court’s.
Appealing to sentiments of people a must to win elections: Prachanda
CPN Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said appealing to sentiments of the people was necessary for winning the elections.
Addressing a party’s program in Kathmandu on Monday, Prachanda said that one of the various ways to win the election was winning over the sentiment of the people.
Stating that Balen Shah was elected as Kathmandu Mayor by appealing to the sentiments of the people, he said the Maoist Center was looking for even intense sentiment than Shah’s.
Stressing on winning the election by associating with the sentiments of the people, he said that if they win just three seats in Kathmandu Valley, the Maoists Center was to become a powerful party.
Nepal, World Bank sign $100 million financing deal to support green, resilient, and inclusive development
The Government of Nepal and the World Bank on Monday signed a concessional financing agreement for $100 million (equivalent to Rs 12.7 billion) for Green, Resilient, and Inclusive Development (GRID).
The proposed budgetary support aims to support improvements in the enabling environment in Nepal toward a green, climate-resilient, and inclusive development. This is the first in a programmatic series of three concessional loan on GRID.
The agreement was signed by Ishwori Prasad Aryal, Joint Secretary, International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division, Ministry of Finance, on behalf of the Government of Nepal, and Lada Strelkova, World Bank Operations Manager for Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
Supreme Court orders Mayor Shah to clarify on contempt of court within seven days
The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered Balen Shah, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, to respond within seven days in the contempt of court case.
A single bench of Justice Hari Krishna Karki gave the order while hearing the contempt case against Kathmandu Mayor Shah.
Advocate Deepak Raj Joshi had filed a contempt of court case against Mayor Shah.
Although the court had stayed the demolition of the illegal structure built by Norvic International Hospital with an interim order, Balen wrote on social media that the authority to take action against the structure built without passing the map and to pass the map should be given to the Supreme Court by amending the Constitution.
Rayamajhi nominated as Nepali Congress NA Parliamentary Party
The Nepali Congress (NC) has nominated Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi as the leader of the parliamentary party for the National Assembly.
The office of the NC Parliamentary Party issued a statement appointing Rayamajhi as per sub-section (1) of Article 12 of the Statute of the Parliamentary Party (with amendments and modifications, 2074).
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba nominated Rayamajhi as the leader of the National Assembly Parliamentary Party.
Shah, Kami appointed ministers in Karnali
Krishna Shah and Rato Kami have been appointed the Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning and Water Resources and Energy Development of the Karnali province government, respectively.
Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi today appointed Shah and Kami as the minister in the province government.
Both are from the CPN Maoist Center and were recommended for appointment to the post of minister by the party.
Koshi Tappu, CNP welcome baby elephant same day

The good news is that two elephants, one at the Koshi Tappu and one at the CNP, gave birth the same day.
The elephant named Loktantra Kali at the Koshi Tappu gave birth to a female calf while Saraswoti Kali at the CNP delivered a male calf on Sunday.
Foreign Secretary Paudyal hold talks with his Australian counterpart in Caneberra
Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal, held talks with Jan Adams, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia in Canberra on Monday.
The meeting between the duo touched on various matters of bilateral relations between Nepal and Australia and on further expanding and strengthening cooperation in different areas of mutual interests, according to a statement released by the Embassy of Nepal in Canberra.
On the occasion, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Nepal and the Government of Australia on Cooperation in the Fields of Water Resources Management was signed.
School employees decide to withdraw protest
Nepal School Employees Council has withdrawn its protest programs and decided to sit for talks with the government.
The central committee of the council took the decision to this extent stating that the government has formally invited it for talks to discuss its demands.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on Sunday invited the council for talks to discuss its demands.
Indian Army-led delegation pays courtesy call on Prime Minister Deuba
A delegation of the Indian Army that arrived in Nepal for a five-day visit paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence on Monday.
A 31-member team, including students participating in the ‘National Defense Course-62’ held at the National Defense College in New Delhi arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Their courtesy call to the PM, who is also the Defense Minister, took place on the second day of their visit.
The visiting delegation also met with Finance Minister Janardan Sharma at the Ministry of Finance today itself.
Prior to calling on the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister, the delegation also visited the Nepali Army headquarters in Bhadrakali, Kathmandu, and met with Chief of Army Staff General Prabhuram Sharma.
