Citizenship Bill being discussed in Legislation Management Committee today



KATHMANDU: The Citizenship Bill sent back by President Bidya Devi Bhandari for reconsideration is being discussed in the Legislation Management Committee today.

Committee Secretary Manoj Kumar Giri said that the meeting of the Committee to be held Sunday noon will discuss and suggest to the government concerning the Bill.

Home Minister Balkrishna Khand, Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, and Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Udaya Raj Sapkota have also been invited to the meeting.

The National Assembly meeting held on Sunday unanimously decided to proceed procedurally with the Bill that was passed by the House of Representatives through fast track.

Home Minister Balkrishna Khan proposed to return the Citizenship Bill with a message from the President to the Legislative Committee for reconsideration.

The ruling coalition has a majority in the Committee.

Nepali Congress has three lawmakers, including Narayan Dutta, Jitendra Narayan Dev and Prakash Pant in the Committee.

Likewise, there are four lawmakers from Maoist Center – Ganga Kumari Belbase, Taraman Swar, Suresh Kumar Alemagar and Radheshyam Paswan.

Devendra Dahal, Bhagwati Neupane and Bhairav ​​Sundar Shrestha are from CPN-UML.

Likewise, President-nominated lawmaker Bimala Rai Paudyal belongs to the CPN-UML.

Likewise, Dr. Bedu Ram Bhhusal and Udaya Bahadur Bohara represent the Unified Socialist party.

Likewise, Khimlal Devkota is also considered to be close to CPN. Pramila Kumari is a member from Janata Samajbadi Party.

With this, the majority of the coalition is seen in the Committee.

This Legislation Management Committee is constituted in the National Assembly pursuant to article 97 of the Constitution of Nepal in order to make the government accountable and responsible to the National Assembly and also to give necessary direction or opinion, and advice after monitoring and evaluating the Act and activities carried out by the government.
