KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has taken action against those rebel candidates who did not withdraw their nominations by 5 pm today.

Those rebel leaders including Jagannath Paudel in Bharatpur Metropolitan City have automatically been expelled from the party as per the party decision.

Issuing a press statement today, chief secretary of the central party office Krishna Prasad Paudel had urged all the rebel leaders to withdraw their candidacies by 5 pm today.

“All the rebel leaders have been requested to withdraw their candidacies by 5 pm today and help those who have been fielded officially in the local level elections,” read the press statement, warning, “Those who do not withdraw their candidacies will be expelled from the party along with their seconders and proposers as per Article 4 (13) of the Party Statute (2017) of the NC.”

Earlier, NC President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Dr Shekhar Koirala had appealed to all the NC rebel leaders to withdraw their candidacies.

President Deuba had sent the two ministers to Chitwan on Wednesday to convince rebel candidate Paudel to withdraw candidacy and support CPN (Maoist Center) candidate Renu Dahal, but to no avail.
