FCAN seeks construction holiday as price of construction materials increase by 100 percent

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN) has demanded that the government declare a construction holiday, saying that construction materials have become too expensive.

Speaking at a press conference held in Kathmandu on Tuesday to announce the decision of the recent national gathering of the federation, FCAN President Ravi Singh said that the construction holiday should be declared as the investment also went up due to high cost of construction materials.

He urged to minimize the impact of price hike in construction materials if construction holiday could not be declared. He declared that the construction work could not be carried out in the current situation.

With the 100 percent increase in the price of construction materials and resulting shortage had led to black marketing of materials, said FCAN President Singh.

He added that the Public Procurement Monitoring Office should immediately issue Technical Guidance No. 2 as in 2065 BS so that the entrepreneurs can get price increase in all the projects as per the Public Procurement Act, 2063 BS.

The federation urged to make the construction industry of the country systematic and dignified by correcting the error of the eleventh amendment of the Public Procurement Rules, 2064 BS.
