PHC okays proposed SC Justice Shrestha

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has approved the name of Til Prasad Shrestha, who has been recommended as a judge of the Supreme Court.

Judicial Council (JC) had recommended Chief Judge of Biratnagar High Court Shrestha as the Justice of the Supreme Court.

A PHC meeting held on Tuesday unanimously approved Shrestha’s name, said PHC Chairman Laxman Lal Karna.

Justice Shrestha presented his work plan and details of his past works before the PHC today. He advocated for increasing the public faith and trust in the judiciary.

Earlier, the PHC had called for complaints, if any, against Shrestha.

The post of a Justice had been lying vacant in the Supreme Court. As per the provision, there are 21 Justices, including the Chief Justice, at the Supreme Court.

With this, Shrestha will be appointed as Supreme Court justice by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
