Teaching learning comes to a halt as protesting employees announce week-long closure of govt school

KATHMANDU: Teaching learning activities have come to a halt as protesting employees have declared closure of all government schools for a week.

Nepal School Employees’ Council (NSEC) said the padlocking was a part of its pre-announced protest program. It warned that the principals would have to bear responsibility if any untoward incident were to happen if schools were opened during strike.

The council has been protesting against the government for the past two weeks.

School Employee Council, a group of community school staff, said it has padlocked all schools across the country demanding the government address their concerns regarding unfair wages and that the closure would continue till this Friday.

Council’s General Secretary Shanti Nath Yogi said they set up a 41-member committee to coordinate among the schools for the protest.

The council said the protest would continue until their demand is met. It added they won’t sit for talks unless the government invites them officially.
