KATHMANDU: The U.S. Embassy has organized a one-day workshop with business and government leaders to promote sustainable economic development in Nepal on Thursday.
The workshop covered topics on Nepal’s business environment and investment policy initiatives.

Entrepreneurs, executives, business association representatives, development agencies, think tanks, and government officials – all key stakeholders in promoting sustainable economic development in Nepal — were present on the occasion.

The event was also an opportunity for the U.S. Embassy to demonstrate support for increased U.S. business investment and engagement in Nepal, said the US Mission in Kathmandu.
Chargé d’Affaires Manny P. Micaller Jr., Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Maha Prasad Adhikari, and Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Arjun Pokharel, provided opening remarks.
“In Nepal, as in many other countries, the private sector is the key change agent in economic development – creating jobs and contributing the most to national income,” said Chargé d’Affaires Manny P. Micaller Jr., adding, “Beyond that, the private sector leads by example, demonstrating values such as responsibility and inclusion, and making a positive impact that lifts all communities in Nepal.”

During the event, Assistant Secretary Donald Lu, who arrived in Kathmandu earlier this afternoon, delivered the U.S. Secretary of State’s Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE) to Purnaa, a U.S. manufacturing company in Nepal that promotes ethical manufacturing by empowering traditionally marginalized people and survivors of exploitation.
The event also highlighted the new and rapidly growing American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal), which is working to support the U.S.-Nepal trade and investment relationship.
