KATHMANDU: Several major highways and roads across the country have been obstructed by landslides and debris triggered by the Bhotekoshi floods and continuous rainfall.
According to Nepal Police Headquarters, the Muglin–Galchhi, Muglin–Narayangadh, Mechi Highway, Rukum West Bheri Corridor, Pasang Lhamu Highway and Shahid Marg in Rolpa, among other road sections, have been affected.
One-way traffic has been operating along the Galchhi–Baireni section of the Prithvi Highway since Thursday evening. Traffic has also resumed in the Jarikhet section after accumulated soil and rocks were cleared, according to Shubharaj Neupane, spokesperson for the Department of Roads.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to remove around 700 meters of silt from the Malekhu–Galaudi section. The Department of Roads said the Prithvi Highway would be fully reopened once the debris is cleared from the affected section.
According to Nepal Police Headquarters, clearance work is also underway at Jyangkhola in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10, Dhading, which was blocked following the recent Rasuwa flood. Similar work is being carried out toward Bihani Pump in Ward No. 2 of the same rural municipality.
The road at Galaudi in Ward No. 5 has also been obstructed as excavators and other heavy equipment have been unable to reach the site. Likewise, the road section between Jaharkhet and Bangemod in Gajuri Rural Municipality-6, Dhading, remains blocked.
In Baireni of Galchhi Rural Municipality-6, authorities are continuing efforts to clear the accumulated silt and reopen the road.
