UML decides to go to polls by proposing Chair Oli as next prime minister
The CPN-UML has decided to go to polls by proposing Chairman KP Sharma Oli as the next prime minister.
A UML Central Committee (CC) meeting, which was held to prepare for November 20 elections, decided to promote Oli as the future prime minister.
After the CC meeting concluded on Saturday, UML leader Kiran Gurung said, “The CC meeting decided to put forth KP Oli as PM as per the suggestions from the group discussion.”
The CC meeting that ran for two days at the party office Chyasal, Lalitpur, also fixed criteria for selecting candidates in the elections.
Clean and beautiful city for urban development: PM Deuba
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said development of clean and beautiful city could ensure well managed urbanization. He argued Nepal was facing various sorts of disasters due to not having well planned and managed cities.
PM Deuba was saying it amidst a program organized to inaugurate an international conference center built at Butwal Mandap of Butwal Submetropolis-10 on Saturday.
Time has come for us to rebuild the old cities and manage the news ones, he said.
He mentioned that Butwal was making headway to urban development and believed that the establishment of the international conference center would help promote socioeconomic and educational development.
LSP leaders call on President Bhandari to draw attention to Citizenship Bill
Leaders of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) have met President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Saturday.
In the meeting held at President’s Office, Shital Niwas, on Saturday, LSP leaders drew the attention of the President towards the Citizenship Bill.
They said, “All bonafide (genuine) Nepali citizen should not be made stateless.”
LSP President Mahantha Thakur, senior leaders Rajendra Mahato, Sarad Singh Bhandari, Anil Jha and other leaders reached Sheetal Niwas to meet the President.
They tried to convince the President saying that there is no need to worry about the content of the Citizenship Bill passed by the House of Representatives, as the President had also issued it as an ordinance.
NC cannot remain in coalition unless it gets 100 seats: Leader Koirala
Nepali Congress (NC) Central Committee member Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the party cannot form an alliance with less than 100 seats in November 20 elections.
He added though situation was such that all parties had to forge alliance and head to the polls, the number of seats for NC could not be reduced below 100.
Koirala said, “NC was strong enough and was capable of contesting the elections on its own. Nevertheless, as the situation is not favorable, we are compelled stay in the alliance.”
Addressing a one-day training program organized by NC Morang Constituency No 6 at Sundarharaincha on Saturday, he made it clear that the NC could not leave its strongholds despite other coalition partners’ claim over.
Nepal sees 173 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 173 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Saturday.
Of the confirmed cases, 65 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 108 through the Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 2,839 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 643 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 2,196 through the Antigen method.
Illegal structures removed at Dhungedhara
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has demolished illegal structures created along the way from Banasthali Chowk to Dhungedhara.
Seven huts and three ladders were demolished as part of the campaign to remove illegal structures set up in public places.
KMC has been demolishing the structures set up illegally in the city since last Tuesday.
