NC Gen Secy Thapa sees need to invest in Nepal’s infrastructure sector throughout next decade

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said Nepal needs investment in the field of infrastructure.

Addressing the 10th World Conference of Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) on Sunday, Thapa said that massive investment was needed in Nepal’s infrastructure sector for the next eight to ten years.

He clarified that Nepal’s agriculture being market-oriented and the trend of sending citizens on foreign employment were affecting the economy. Stating that infrastructure could not be developed just by mobilizing internal resources, Thapa said that foreign investment should be brought in to develop infrastructure.

NC General Secretary Thapa said that non-resident Nepalis should be welcomed to invest in Nepal. He added Nepalis should not fret about the investment of NRNs in the country.

“The way we were afraid to distribute citizenship to the first generation of Nepalis living abroad, provide them with passport and much like, giving the people rights. That has created mistrust among us. We have firmed our fists, but it is time we open up. For this, the leadership should have confidence and work out new ways to cooperate,” he said.

Thapa said Nepalis must not be skeptic of NRNs investment in the country.
