BIRATNAGAR: Contrary to the commitment of the province government to finalize the name of the province as early as possible in the winter session of the province assembly,  the government has gone to prorogue the parliament.

The government decided to end the winter session of the province assembly from Sunday midnight. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held this morning came up with the decision to end the ninth and winter session of the province parliament.

The winter session of the parliament, which started ten weeks ago, was called by the then Chief Minister Bhim Acharya for a vote of confidence. After he resigned without a vote of confidence, Rajendra Rai became the Chief Minister.

CPN-Unified Socialist leader Rai, who became the chief minister after leading a five-party alliance, had been saying that the nomination would be finalized by the winter session. In the meantime, the government also organized an all-party discussion on the name and formed a dialogue committee under a minister to settle on the name of the province. However, the government did not take up the issue of naming in the parliament.

Leaders of the ruling coalition have said that discussions on the name will continue and the nomination will be finalized on consensus in the summer session of the parliament.
