Cabinet approves ‘interpretative declaration’ on MCC

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Council of Ministers has approved the inclusion of interpretative declaration in the United States-backed grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement.

A cabinet meeting took place at the parliament building after the House of Representatives (HoR) adjourned for half an hour. The HoR will meet again to put to vote MCC agreement with interpretative declarations.

Earlier, a general discussion was held on MCC in which lawmakers spoke both in favor and against MCC.

Many parliamentarians have also expressed their doubts over the proposed ‘interpretative declaration’ brought forward by Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

The concept of the interpretative declaration was introduced in a bid to save the ruling coalition.
