SC issues show cause order to defendants in writ related to tenure of Speaker and Deputy Speaker

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice on the writ related to the tenure of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

A single bench of Justice Hari Phuyal issued a show cause order to defendants in connection with the tenure of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and Deputy Speaker Pushpa Bhusal on Sunday.

Four advocates, including Jaggannath Dulal, registered a writ claiming that the tenure of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker ended with the submission of the closed list of proportional representative candidates by parties. However, Sapkota and Bhusal have yet to vacate their offices.

Defendants in the writ Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Law and Federal Parliament Secretariat have been asked to furnish a written response on the matter.

The writ has sought Supreme Court order to vacate the office of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
