KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is hearing the writ petition related to the authentication of the Bill designed to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063 today.
According to the Supreme Court, a bench of Justice Hari Phuyal is hearing the case.
There is a constitutional provision that the President must certify the bill passed by the Parliament for the second time within 15 days.
The hearing that was scheduled for Friday was postponed until Sunday, according to the apex court’s Spokesperson Bimal Paudel.
“The case could not be heard on Friday as there were many other cases to hear,” he said.
A total of five writ petitions have been in the apex court after President Bidya Devi Bhandari denied to certify the citizenship bill that both the Houses endorsed two times, said Paudel.
The petition demanded that the President authenticate the bill.
The Office of the President has been named as a defendant in the case.
