SC to hear writ petitions on Citizenship Bill today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to hear the writ petition related to the authentication of the Bill designed to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063 today.

The hearing that was scheduled for Friday was postponed until Sunday, according to the apex court’s Spokesperson Bimal Paudel.

“The case could not be heard on Friday as there were many other cases to hear,” he said.

Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma was scheduled to hear the case.

A total of five writ petitions have been in the apex court after President Bidya Devi Bhandari denied to certify the citizenship bill that both the Houses endorsed two times, said Paudel.

The petition demanded that the President authenticate the bill.

The Office of the President has been named as a defendant in the case.
