Mayor Balen and Alpha Care Pharmacy owner engage in heated arguments in New Baneswor

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and the owner of Alpha Care Pharmacy Duiraj Sharma engaged in heated arguments on Thursday.

Mayor Shah, who had reached Baneswor along with the team to dismantle illegally-built structures, had to engage in a heated discussion with Sharma when the latter challenged Mayor Shah’s jurisdiction.

Sharma said he did not have a map of the plot and the building when Mayor Shah asked him to show the document.

Alpha Care had allowed the pharmacy to open shutters on the front of the building because of which people have been forced to park vehicles on the street.

Mayor Shah was outraged that the pharmacy had built a parking lot on land that was not on the map.

“We (KMC) published a notice to remove illegally-built structures within 35 days,” Mayor Shah told Sharma.

Sharma, however, said he was not aware of the notice.

During the conversation, Mayor Shah asked Sharma to vacate the parking lot of the pharmacy because it was on government land.

The pharmacy owner, however, claimed that when he had been operating the pharmacy since there was no road in front of the pharmacy.

Furious Shah then said, “You should be able to produce the land ownership certificate. You should have it. Not me.”

After Shah left the spot, Sharma called Balen a ‘don’ instead of a people’s representative.
