KATHMANDU: A total of 36 persons, including foreigners, have been held from the Capital City for illegally operating a call center.
The alleged were arrested from Sky World Services Cetnre at Tinkune in Kathmandu on Monday.
Spokesperson of Nepal Police Tek Bahadur Rai said the arrestees are one Chinese national, two Indians and 33 Nepalis.
Rai said the arrested ones were nabbed for carrying out unlawful activities online including issuing threat, hacking, tapping personal and confidential information and seeking money, among others.
Police also recovered Rs 829,000 in cash, 748 desktop computers and other devices.
After the raid, police have recovered electronic devices from the arrested ones.
Earlier on Sunday, police had arrested a large number of people from Rupandehi for their involvement in running a similar call center.
It is to be noted that back in December 2019 — 122 Chinese citizens were arrested in Kathmandu as a part of joint Nepal-China biggest ever bust of Chinese nationals’ unlawful involvement in Nepal.
Police have often rounded Chinese nationals from different parts of the country for their suspicious activities, including hacking, overstaying, ATM thefts, buying of businesses and their opaque operation hiding from authorities, among others.
The trend of carrying out criminal activities by Chinese nationals in Nepal has been a evolving security issue to Nepal.
