KATHMANDU: A meeting held between Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Friday evening remained inconclusive as the latter reiterated his stance of taking action against 14 lawmakers of the Unified Socialist party.

Prime Minister Deuba had reached Oli’s residence at Balkot to seek the latter’s support in ratifying the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) tabled in the House of Representatives.

According to Gyanendra Karki, Minister for Communication and Information Technology, the meeting did not yield any fruitful outcome as UML Chairman Oli remained adamant to his previous demands.

Even though a meeting was scheduled for Friday afternoon, the talks were not held as UML Chairman Oli was in Pokhara.

Earlier on Thursday, NC and UML leaders, including PM Deuba and UML Chair Oli had discussed the latest political developments.

According to UML leader Subash Nembang, Nepali Congress was positive about fulfilling the demands put forth by the UML party.

The main opposition, UML has been obstructing the session of the House of Representatives demanding action against 14 lawmakers of the Unified Socialist party.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon, PM Deuba had discussions with Chairman of Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” and Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal.

It should be noted that an extended meeting of the Maoist Center on Friday had decided to make a last-ditch effort to retain the ruling coalition.
