Most parts receive below average rains this monsoon: DHM

KATHMANDU: Most parts of the country received below average rains during this monsoon, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).

Madhes Province and western parts got below average rains despite some parts including eastern belts and the Kathmandu Valley having had above average rains. The wind carrying water vapour failing to enter the northern sides in enough amount due to the monsoon low pressure line is blamed for low rains in Nepal, said meteorologist Hira Bhattarai.

Unlike in the past, most parts of the country did not receive torrential rains for consecutive four to five days this monsoon except some hilly areas including the Kathmandu Valley, said meteorologist Sanjib Adhikari.

In general, the country received rains for around 110 days between mid-June and mid-October following the entrance of monsoon wind, said the Department.
