US lawmakers meet Prime Minister Deuba



KATHMANDU: A delegation of US lawmakers visiting Nepal has met Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday morning.

According to the Prime Minister’s secretariat, a four-member high-level parliamentary delegation led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand met Prime Minister Deuba today.

During the meeting, issues related to Nepal-US relations, climate issues, multidimensional partnership among many others were discussed.
After the meeting, Prime Minister Deuba tweeted that he was happy to welcome the US Congressman to Nepal. US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry was also present on the occasion.

Earlier, the US team had a meeting with Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka on Saturday morning. Minister Khadka and the US lawmakers discussed various issues including enhancing bilateral relations and financial assistance.

The visiting team includes Sheldon Whitehouse, Cory Booker, Mark Kelly and Mondaire Jones. The team arrived in Nepal on Friday after a nine-day visit to Poland, UAE, Germany and India.

According to US Embassy in Kathmandu, US high-ranking Congressional delegation’s visit is part of a longer trip by the US lawmakers, which has included visiting Poland in order to learn how the U.S. can continue to support Ukraine and NATO allies against Russia’s unprovoked and unwarranted war, and India.

Nepal has joined the majority of countries in condemning Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine.

The US delegation will return home Sunday.
