UML disciplines seven leaders in Bhojpur after Harka Sampang’s visit

BHOJPUR: The CPN-UML Bhojpur district committee has taken disciplinary action against seven party leaders, including Bhojpur Municipality Deputy Mayor Nirmala Sherpa, following their alleged involvement with the Shram Sanskriti Party led by Harka Sampang.

The action comes days after Sampang visited Bhojpur, with several UML leaders reportedly joining his party.

In a press statement issued on Friday, UML Bhojpur District Chair Makkar Bahadur Khadka said the party viewed the leaders’ decision to join another political party as a serious breach of party discipline, principles and organisational rules.

The statement said elected representatives switching parties amounted to a betrayal of voters, supporters and the public who had backed them under the UML’s election symbol.

The district committee accused Deputy Mayor Sherpa, who is also a member of the UML Koshi Province Committee, of acting against party directives and statutes, making public remarks against the party leadership, misusing her elected position and encouraging party members to join another political party.

The committee has recommended to the UML Koshi Province Committee that Sherpa be expelled from the party and that legal procedures be initiated to remove her from the post of deputy mayor.

The party also expelled Bhojpur Municipality Ward No. 8 Chair and UML district secretariat member Nabin Pradhan from its general membership and said legal procedures have been initiated to remove him from office.

Similarly, Bimal Ranpaheli, Suman Pradhan, Renuka Bhujel, Kopila Rai, Baburam Tamang and Dipen Darnal have also been expelled from the party’s general membership.

The UML district committee urged its leaders and cadres not to be swayed by opportunistic or personality-driven politics and called on them to remain united in strengthening the party in the interest of the public and the nation.
