Supreme Court refuses to register writ against MCC

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) refuses to register the writs against US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on Tuesday.

According to the apex court sources, the SC refused to register two writ petitions seeking to prevent  the parliamentary approval of MCC.

Advocates Surendra Bhandari and Swagat Nepal had been to the apex court with the writ petition arguing that parliamentary approval of the MCC compact is not necessary  as the grant is not a treaty.

The apex administration has remarked that registration of the writs would be invalid as the issue has already been taken up in the parliament.
