MAHOTTARI: Sitaram Sardar, a person who had a significant role in Left democratic movement in the country, passed away at his residence in Bhangaha Municipality-7 Monday.
Sardar was 80-year-old and had been suffering from multiple health problems including diabetes and paralyses.
Sardar who was from Bantar ethnic community had been in politics since 2036 BS.
He had played a leading role in the fronts of struggle for restoration of democracy.
The front was led by Nepal Communist Party under the leadership of Bishnu Bahadur Manandhar in 2038 BS.
Later in 2049, Sardar entered CPN UML in 2049BS. He also waged struggle against ethnic discrimination and oppression.
He is one among few people reaching leadership in the district from Bantar community, according to UML politburo member and Mahottari district in-charge Ram Dayal Mandal.
Similarly, district chairperson of UML Tek Bahadur Balampaki remembered Sardar as a man of integrity.
Sardar’s final rites were observed on the bank of Ratu River on Monday itself. He is survived by wife and six children.
