All courts to remain close on Sunday



KATHMANDU: The Full Court has decided to shut down all courts of the country on Sunday.

According to Devendra Dhakal, the Joint Spokesperson  at the Supreme Court, an emergency meeting of the Full Court held on Saturday morning decided to close all courts on Sunday to mourn the sad demise of former Chief Justice Mohan Prasad Sharma.

Former Chief Justice Sharma passed away on Wednesday afternoon.

He was buried on Saturday after his family members, who had been outside the country, arrived Kathmandu.

The meeting held under Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana’s chairmanship passed a condolence motion and decided to close courts across the country on Sunday.

Former Chief Justice Sharma, who was born on December 16, 1934 in Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu, had entered the government service in 1960. He was the Chief Justice from 12 April, 1998 to 16 December, 1999. The Supreme Court has remarked that it has lost a true patriot and judicial personality at Sharma’s demise.
