Police raid results in seizure of illegal goods worth Rs 10 million in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Police have raided a godown in Saraswatinagar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-7 and seized illegal goods worth around Rs 10 million.

A team from Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office carried out the raid acting on a tip-off that illegal goods were being stored at the godown.

Crime Investigation Office SP Krishna Koirala said illegal goods ranging from branded cigarettes to hukka flavors to oximeters, among others, were seized from the godown. The total cost of the illegal goods is estimated to be around Rs 10 million.

 

Police also arrested owner of the godown Chabilal Agasti of Prasouni Rural Municipality, Parsa, currently residing in Kapan, after discovering that the stored goods were brought by evading customs.

The godown operated under Agasti-registered Sijal & Sujata Trading Pvt. Ltd.

Koirala said that Agasti, who was arrested with illegal goods, will be sent to the Revenue Investigation Department for further investigation and action.

Koirala said that a case will be filed against him for the offense related to the Explosive Substances Act, among others, as the recovered goods also contained celebratory explosive items.
