General Election-2022: Voter turnout remains 61 percent

The voter turnout in today’s parliamentary election has remained at less than 61 per cent, according to the preliminary report of the Election Commission (EC).

The EC has said that the elections were held peacefully sparing some sporadic incidents.

A total of 17,988,570 voters were registered at the Election Commission. There were altogether 22,227 voting centers in 10,892 polling stations set up for the election to the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly.

According to the EC, information on voter turnout is being registered in the EC’s entry system.

The EC shared that voting was postponed in 15 polling centres in Surkhet, Nawalparasi (Susta Purba), Gulmi and Bajura among others despite the EC’s efforts to hold the polls peacefully and conveniently.

PM Deuba thanks all for contribution in polls

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the voting under the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Province Assembly were concluded successfully in a peaceful manner.

He thanked one and all for their contributions to conclude the parliamentary and provincial elections in a peaceful, fearless, impartial and encouraging way.

Voting under the polls took place on Sunday (November 20).

UML will form majority govt by December 1: KP Oli

CPN-UML chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli has said that his party would form the majority government by December 1.

Speaking to media after casting vote in Balkot, Bhaktapur on Sunday, the chairman Oli claimed that the UML will get majority to form the government and if that is not the case, the government will be formed together with the parties that have partnered with UML.

46 organizations, including two foreign ones, observe Sunday’s election

Forty-six organizations, including two foreign ones, were mobilized for the observation of the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly Member elections held on Sunday.

Similarly, representatives of the election commissions of six countries had come to Nepal for election observation, the Election Commission said.

“Only two among the foreign organizations recognized by us – Asian Network for Free Election and Civic Chamber of Russian Federation – participated in the election observation. Similarly, 44 organizations from within the country got permission for election observation,” EC Under-Secretary Kamal Bhattarai said.

55 percent votes cast in 10 constituencies of Kathmandu

55 percent votes have been cast in 10 constituencies of Kathmandu in today’s elections.

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer said that polling was completed peacefully in 767 polling stations in 10 constituencies.

Currently, the collection of ballot boxes is going on in Kathmandu.

Three injured in firing in Bajura’s Triveni Municipality

Three people were injured in firing in Triveni Municipality-7 of Bajura.

Bajura Assistant Chief District Officer Lokendra Bista said three people were injured during the clash between CPN-UML and Nepali Congress cadres during the voting.

According to him, the condition of one person is serious, while the injured have not been identified.

115-year-old man casts vote in Ilam

A 115-year-old Man Bahadur Rai has cast his vote in Ilam in the election of the members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly (PA) members held today.

According to District Police Office Ilam, a resident of Phakphokthum Rural Municipality – 7, Rai cast vote at the polling centre of Singh Devi Secondary School, Shikari Bhanjyang.

It has been mentioned in his citizenship that Rai was born in 1964 BS at the then Ektappa VDC – 5, Ilam.

Police opens 53 rounds of blank fire in five districts

At least 53 rounds of blank fire have been opened in different places of five districts across the country on the day of election today.

The police opened blank fire in polling stations to control the disorderly situation in districts such as Rautahat, Siraha, Chitwan, Dolakha and Bajura, according to Tek Prasad Rai, the central spokesperson of Nepal Police.

Three rounds of blank fire were shot each at Garuda and Kanakpur polling stations in Rautahat district and Mirchaiya Badharamal polling station in Siraha district.

Voting suspended in 15 centres

Voting under the elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly was suspended at 15 centres, the Election Commission confirmed.

The voting that kicked off at 7:00 am concluded at 5:00 pm.

Ballot box catches fire in Bajura

A ballot box at Bhagwati Aadharbhut School polling station of Swamikartik Khapar rural municipality 1 of Bajura has caught fire.

The police said that the ballot box for the proportional representation votes for the provincial assembly at the polling station was found on fire.

It is not known how the fire took place.

The police said that the voting process has now stopped after the ballot box was burnt.

528 votes were cast in that polling station with a total of 840 voters.

Election postponed due to official’s mistake in Tulsipur-10

The voting has been stopped at Patubangaun polling center in Tulsipur-10, Dang due to a polling official’s mistake there.

According to Pushpalata Gharti, polling officer of the said polling station, they happened to issue province assembly ballot papers even for the House of Representatives votes.

Bomb explodes in Khairapur polling station in Bardiaya

A bomb has exploded in the Khairapur polling station of Gularia municipality-2 in Bardia on this morning.

After the bomb blast, voting has been postponed in Shambhusharan Secondary School, Khairapur. After the bomb blast there, there was some panic among the voters and employees standing in the queue.

The polling officials and the party representatives were to holding meeting to resume the voting.

Police fire in air as Biplav faction tries to disrupt election in Chitwan

The Netra Bikram Channd Biplav-led CPN-Maoist party tried to disrupt the elections and burn the ballot box in Chitwan.

Eyewitnesses said Biplav’s cadres tried to disrupt the election at the polling station of Bhramhasthani Basic School located in Chitwan Constituency-1 Rapti-8.

Chitwan police spokesperson DSP Bijay Raj Pandit said that police fired in air after a group of 15-20 people tried to disrupt the election.

Nepal sees two new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of two new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Sunday.

All the two confirmed cases were detected through the RT-PCR method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 240 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
