20 die as over 1,600 infected from Dengue in past five weeks
As many as 20 people died due to Dengue infection and more than 1,600 people have been infected with the disease in the past five weeks in Nepal.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, Dengue has now spread in all the 77 districts and as many as 16,587 cases have been recorded so far.
Bagmati Province has recorded the highest of 12,401 cases of Dengue followed by Lumbini with 2,422 cases and Province 1 with 504 cases.
Deadline for authenticating Citizenship Bill ends
The deadline for authenticating Citizenship Bill sent by the Federal Parliament to President Bidya Devi Bhandari is ending today.
According to the Constitutional provision, the President has to authenticate the Bill within 15 days.
Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota sent the Citizenship Bill to the President’s Office for the second time on September 5.
Therefore, as mentioned in Article 113, Sub-section 4 of the Constitution, the President has to certify it if the same Bill is submitted for authentication for the second time.
EC to verify closed list of PR candidates today and tomorrow
The Election Commission (EC) said it will verify and go through the closed list of Proportional Representative (PR) candidates today and tomorrow.
As many as 48 political parties taking part in the November 20 elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly submitted the closed list at the EC on Sunday and Monday.
However, a total of 68 political parties had earlier applied for the same.
The EC would notify the parties to make amendments to the list if any errors are found.
Nepali movie ‘Aina Jhyalko Purtali’ to represent Nepal in 95th Academy Awards
Nepali film ‘Aina Jhyalko Putali’ has been selected to represent Nepal in 95th Academy Awards (The Oscars), announced by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science.
A meeting held on Monday under the chairmanship of chairperson of Nepal’s International Feature Film Selection Committee, Bimal Poudel, selected ‘Aina Jhyalko Putali’ directed by Sujit Bidari for the same.
Nepal exports electricity worth Rs 2.42 billion from mid-Aug to mid-Sept
In the second month of the current fiscal year 2079/80 BS (2022/23), Nepal exported electricity worth 2.42 billion rupees to India.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) earned Rs 2.41 billion 67.82 thousand by exporting 246 million 65 million 29 thousand units of electricity that was surplus in the country.
The NEA had started selling excess monsoon electricity consumed within the country through competition in the day-ahead market of the Indian Energy Exchange Limited in May.
Since then, since mid-June, 364 megawatts of electricity produced by 6 hydropower plants have been sold daily in the Indian market at a competitive rate.
80 percent air tickets booked for Dashain
Eighty percent air tickets have been booked for the Dashain, according to the domestic air service providers. Ticket booking for the festival opened a few days back.
According the Shree Airlines and Guna Airlines, 80 percent of their tickets have been booked for the festival, while the Buddha Air has got its 40 percent tickets booked.
Similarly, Yeti Airlines has got its 70 percent ticket booked.
Similarly, 70 percent return ticket has been booked.
RPP Nepal leaders, including central member Dhiraj Shahi, join UML
Dozens of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Nepal leaders and cadres, including central member Dhiraj Kumar Shahi, have joined the CPN-UML.
RPP Nepal’s Dailekh Chair Nabin Kumar Shahi, a permanent resident of Dailekh, also joined the UML along with dozens of cadres.
UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel welcomed the new entrants to the party at a program held at the party office, Chyasal, Lalitpur, on Tuesday.
EC grants permission to 36 organizations so far to observe Nov 20 elections
The Election Commission (EC) has given permission to 36 organizations to observe and monitor the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly to be held on November 20.
According to the EC, 2 international organizations have received permission so far.
The SAARC Human Rights Foundation and the Asian Network for Free Elections have been given permission to observe the elections.
BFIs perceive State-prioritized sectors as risky areas: NRB Governor Adhikari
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has said that Banks and Financial Institutions (BFI) perceived the sectors prioritized by the Central Bank for investment as risky sectors.
Addressing the 49th anniversary of the Deposit and Credit Guarantee Fund (DCGF) held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Governor Adhikari said so.
“BFIs are used to providing loans on the basis of their ease when the State’s focus is at fostering new entrepreneurs and increasing production. Unfortunately, BFIs perceive State-prioritized areas as risky sectors,” Governor Adhikari said.
He added, “The regulator had to instruct BFIs to allocate a certain amount in State-prioritized areas due to the same reason.”
US invests $19 million to enhance global competitiveness of Nepali businesses
The United States has launched the USAID Trade and Competitiveness activity, introducing it to Nepal’s private sector.
This five-year $19 million investment will increase the competitiveness of Nepali enterprises in targeted sectors with high growth and employment potential.
Building on 75 years of friendship between Nepal and the United States, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will collaborate with Nepal’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies (MOICS) to help businesses facilitate new trade and investment opportunities, improve their access to market-based financial and non-financial services, and boost productivity.
Over 1,000 brand-new vehicles stuck in Birgunj checkpoint
Over 1,000 brand-new big and small vehicles entering Nepal from neighboring India and third countries for sale have been stuck midway at Birgunj point.
The vehicles being transported worth minimum Rs 2 million to maximum Rs 10 million each include 572 jeeps, cars and vans, 1,146 buses, trucks, tippers and mini-trucks.
According to Kamal Gyawali, chief of the Birgunj Integrated Check Post, these vehicles have been parked in the premises of the check post since seven months.
Govt, Nepal Scouts sign performance agreement
A performance agreement has been signed between the government and Nepal Scouts.
Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Dr Damodar Regmi and National Coordinator of Nepal Scouts Lok Bahadur Bhandari signed the performance agreement on Tuesday.
Scouts Coordinator Bhandari said that the agreement was signed with the aim of successfully completing the policy and program, budget and annual development program for the fiscal year 2022-23.
Nepal sees 74 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 74 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.
Of the confirmed cases, 39 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 35 through the Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,512 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 1,535 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 1,977 through the Antigen method.
NEPSE declines 38.81 points to close at 1,837.60 on Tuesday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined by a whopping 38.81 points to close at 1,837.60 points on Tuesday (today).
The NEPSE index registered a loss of 2.07 percent today. Similarly, the sensitive index fell 7.00 points to close at 358.87 points.
The index that opened at 1,875.41 made an intraday high of 1,877.65, an intraday low of 1,833.55 and ultimately closed at 1,837.60.
A total of 3,856,538 unit shares of 231 companies were traded throughout the day, resulting in a turnover of Rs 1.22 billion.
Gold price down by Rs 400 today
The price of gold has increased by Rs 400 in the domestic market today.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 91,800 per tola.
The price of yellow metal was Rs 91,400 per tola on Monday.
