Series of splits in Maoist Center began with dismissal of then CoAS Katwal: Chair Prachanda

KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that a series of splits in the party had begun after the Katwal incident.

The Maoist Center-led government had sacked Chief of Army Staff of Nepal General Rookmangud Katwal in 2009.

Speaking at a training program organized in Pokhara on Sunday, Chair Prachanda said that the party had spilt into 14 to 15 groups since then to till date. “A series of splits in the Maoist Center had started after the Katawal incident,” he said, adding, “There have been one, two, too many splits. Now again in terms of unity, 14/15 groups are in queue.”

Prachanda stressed the transformation of the Maoist revolution in a new manner.

“Do we transform this party into a revolutionary one or leave it as it is? The movement against regression showed the possibility of transformation,” he said, adding, “Thinking that one should strike when the iron is hot, we began to build the party then.”
