Four arrested for stealing archeological artefacts from Keshar Mahal

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested four persons on the charge of stealing archeological artefacts from Keshar Mahal, Thamel, Kathmandu.

A team from the Metropolitan Crime Division and Metropolitan Police Circle, Durbar Marg, arrested four people on the charge of theft, said police.

The arrested have been identified as Ganesh Bishwokarma alias Ganesh Sripali, Devendra KC alias Dipendra, Suman Sharma, 18, of Dang Tulsipur, and Bir Bahadur Sunar, 36, of Rukum West. They are laborers doing retrofitting work at Keshar Mahal which was damaged in the 2015 earthquake.

They stand accused of stealing artifacts such as a tiger head, swords and the attire of Keshar Shumsher, among other items, from the library in Keshar Mahal.

Police sources said they stole the items 15-20 days ago. However, after police began the investigation they thought of returning the stolen items. Two of them were arrested when they were trying to restore the items at the library.
