Local govt should be self-functioning, agile, transparent and technology-friendly: PM Deuba



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized that the local government should move forward ensuring its activities are more agile, transparent and technology-friendly.

Addressing the 8th National Convention of Municipal Association of Nepal on Monday, Prime Minister Deuba said that the local level should be developed as a self-sufficient organization in a systematic manner.

The Prime Minister remarked that the local people’s representatives should efficiently fulfill their compassion and accountability towards the people by properly mobilizing local resources and means so that the expectations and needs of the people are properly addressed.

“The Constitution has given important rights and responsibilities to the local level, they should use it in the field of development, construction and service delivery” he said, adding, “ As the government at the people’s doorstep, the local levels should make their operations more agile, transparent and technology-friendly.”

Prime Deuba also expressed concern towards the unorganized urbanization and urged the municipalities to take due action to regulate and make it more organized and less hazardous.
