Parliament Secretariat intensifies preparation for administering oath to MPs

KATHMANDU: The Federal Parliament Secretariat has intensified its preparation for administering oath of office to the newly-elected members of the House of Representatives (HoR).

Once the President administers oath of office and secrecy to the senior-most member among the newly-elected, other members would be sworn in later.

In order to identify the senior-most member, the secretariat has already sent a letter to the Election Commission (EC) requesting to furnish age details in this regard.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has called upon the parties to present their claim for Prime Minister in seven days within December 25.

Among the newly-elected members, the age details of Chitra Bahadur KC, Mahantha Thakur, Mahendra Roy Yadav and Pashupati Shumsher Rana seem to be scrutinized.

If any member wishes to take oath of office in own mother language, s/he shall arrange translation of the oath paper in to the concerned language and inform the parliament-secretariat three days before the oath-taking ceremony.

According to the information provided by the secretariat, as many as 36 members had taken oath in 11 mother languages (excluding Nepali) after the House of Representatives election, 2074 BS.

The members, as informed, were administered with oath of office in Maithili, Tharu, Bhojpuri, Magar, Hindi, Abadhi, Nepalbhasha, Banjika, Newari, Urdu and Tamang languages.

The secretariat would also offer logo to the newly-elected members of the HoR on the oath-taking ceremony.

Each logo is prepared at the cost of Rs 5,800. Though the swearing-in day has yet to be fixed, the ceremony would be held at parliament building in New Baneswor within five days.

Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Dr Rojnath Pandey said the members would be provided with a bag containing the Constitution, diary, pen, parliamentary regulation, directives and other publications.
