KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Sudurpashchim Province Executive Committee General Secretary and former district president Nar Narayan Shah has announced that he is stepping away from all responsibilities within the party.
Shah, who carries a political legacy spanning eight decades in his family, said he made the decision citing serious dissatisfaction with the leadership’s working style. He also stated that he will no longer participate in any formal or informal activities of the party.
Taking to social media, Shah said he was completely dissatisfied with the role played by the party leadership in the current political situation.
“In the present sensitive and challenging situation of the country, I have decided not to participate in party activities until the entire Nepali Congress stands united,” he wrote. “In the coming days, I will possibly try to remain away from partisan politics.”
Shah’s family has been active in Nepali Congress politics for three generations. His grandfather Lokendra Bahadur Shah was a member of parliament elected in 1959 and also served as a district president. His father Mohan Bahadur Shah was a former district president and chairman of the District Development Committee.
Nar Narayan Shah himself served two terms as the district president of the party.
Warning of the risk of division within the party, he said the sentiments of cadres committed to nationalism, democracy and socialism could be hurt if the party’s established legacy is undermined.
“Let there be no attempt to play with the established legacy,” Shah said. “From now on, I wish to live simply as a true Nepali Congress supporter. Please do not take this otherwise.”
Shah also clarified that he was not discouraged by the result of the House of Representatives election and urged people not to interpret his decision solely through the lens of the election outcome.
