KATHMANDU: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Balendra Shah has asked authorities concerned as to when the roads demolished in course of laying the electricity wires underground and lay water pipes would be built.
At the infrastructure development coordination meeting of the metropolis on Tuesday, Mayor Shah inquired of the matter with the officials of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Limited (KUKL).
Mayor Shah questioned the NEA officials about the construction of roads now left in limbo after the electric wires were undergrounded. The wires in Ranibari, Baluwatar, Bishalnagar, Dhumbarahi, Handigaon, Mali Village, Kalo Pul, New Bus Park and other areas, have been undergrounded. He added footpaths were also damaged due to the non-construction of the roads.
Mayor Sah also asked officials by when the roads of Ward No. 13, 14, 15 and 26, which were demolished to lay water pipes underground, will be constructed. He also took stock of progress of Wards 2, 3, 4 and 5, where water pipes are currently being laid.
He said a big change was possible if service providers (employees of the public service sector) and the beneficiaries (the people who receive the services) moderate their behavior.
He added physical structures such as flyovers and underpasses are necessary for tomorrow and there is a need for behavior change to improve the situation.
Mayor Sah said, “Let’s first work on software for physical infrastructure networks like roads, water supply, sewerage, electricity, telephone and internet service providers’ wire networks, waste management. After working on the software, we have to work on the hardware.”
Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol informed that the meeting was organized with the aim of coordination and not confusion in the work of urban development.
