UML wins mayor and deputy mayor in Suryabinayak municipality



BHAKTAPUR: CPN-UML candidate Basudev Thapa has been elected as the mayor of Suryabinayak municipality of Bhaktapur.

Thapa was elected with 14,758 votes. His nearest rival Nishan Dhungel of the Nepali Congress polled 13,223 votes.

Similarly, UML’s Sarita Bhattarai was also elected as the deputy mayor with 14,490 votes.

Her nearest rival Shyam Sundar Basnet of the CPN (Unified Socialist) got 6,661 votes.

There were a total of 47,357 votes, of which 35,531 (75.02) votes had been cast in the local level elections held on May 13.
