President Bhandari grants amnesty to 681 prisoners



KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has granted amnesty to 681 prisoners completing the specified sentence and whose jail term remains to be over.

The amnesty was granted on the occasion of the Constitution Day-2079 BS which falls on September 19 this year.

President Bhandari gave amnesty to these convicts on the recommendation of the cabinet meeting held on September 16, according to the Office of President, Sheetal Niwas.

The amnesty would be effective from September 19.

There are 203 inmates getting amnesty on the basis of good conduct in jail, including Pasang Sherpa, while jail terms were exempted for 478 inmates, including Indra Kumar Limbu, stated the press statement issued by Sagar Acharya, Spokesperson for the Office of President.

Furthermore, it was shared that the amnesty was granted in accordance with the Article 276 of the Constitution of Nepal and Criminal Offenses (Punishment Determination and Implementation) Act-2074 BS.
