PM Deuba vows to hold Nov 20 elections in a fair manner as term of parliament expires tonight

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has vowed to hold the elections on November 20 in a fair manner as the term of the parliament is set to expire Saturday midnight.

Standing as the Head of the Government at the last meeting of the House of Representatives on Saturday, Deuba expressed the government’s commitment to making the upcoming elections fair.

He pledged the government’s full support to the Election Commission to hold the elections.

He expressed happiness that the parliament had successfully completed its tenure though UML Chair KP Sharma Oli tried to dissolve the parliament twice.

He reminded lawmakers that the Supreme Court had not only formed the government but also reinstated the parliament after the UML chair’s move. Meant as a sarcasm to Oli, Deuba said that he was able to meet, work together with Oli due to the restoration of the parliament.

“We had to face dissolution of parliament for the first time after Nepal became a republic. Nevertheless, the parliament ran its full term today as envisioned by the constitution. The Supreme Court not only formed the government, but also reinstated the parliament. That’s why, we were able to work together and meet,” Deuba told the parliament today.

He claimed that after a government had been formed under his leadership, he worked to better international relations and implement the constitution.

He added, “During my government, the Citizenship Bill was passed to provide citizenship to stateless citizens and Non-Resident Nepalis. Nepal strengthened bilateral and multilateral relations in the global sphere.”
