Minister Chaudhari asks KMC to maintain originality



KATHMANDU: Minister for Urban Development, Metmani Chaudhari, has urged the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to pay heed to the originality of the Kathmandu Valley while modernizing the city.

Kathmandu is rich in historical and cultural value, so KMC must protect it, Minister Chaudhari said the time has come to resolve the longtime problems of garbage and sewerage here, he pointed out, pledging support from the Ministry.

KMC Mayor Balendra Shah said he was devoted to ensure change in KMC as per the citizen’s aspiration with the cooperation of the federal government and other local levels.

Similarly, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC), Chiribabu Maharjan, said the KMC and LMC had no option but to work in unison for the development of the Kathmandu Valley.

Newly-elected member of the House of Representatives in Kathmandu constituency no 2, Shobita Gautam, also pointed out the need of cooperation among the federal and local levels to ensure clean and beautiful Kathmandu as aspired by the citizens.

Kathmandu city was declared metropolitan city in 2052BS. In commemoration of the announcement, the day is observed today, Mangsir 29. The KMC observed the Day for a week.
