Kaligandaki Corridor reopened after landslide clearance

GULMI: The Kaligandaki Corridor, which had been blocked by landslides triggered by rainfall, has been reopened to traffic.

The road was obstructed by landslides at several locations along the Harmichaur-Arbeni-Purtighat section of the corridor. According to Birendra Bir Bishwakarma, information officer at the District Police Office, debris was cleared using dozers and excavators in coordination with Kaligandaki Rural Municipality and the Road Division Office, Palpa.

Kaligandaki Rural Municipality Chairman Bed Bahadur Thapa said landslides carrying rocks and large boulders had occurred at several points along the road from Rudrabeni in Satyawati Rural Municipality to the Harmichaur-Arbeni-Purtighat section.

He added that all local roads within the rural municipality that had been blocked by landslides have also been reopened following debris clearance.

The disruption had caused difficulties for passengers travelling to Tamghas, Baglung, Palpa, Butwal and Pokhara. With the corridor now reopened, public transport and other vehicles that had been stranded have resumed their journeys to their respective destinations.
