Nepal to observe week-long Int’l Migrants Day

KATHMANDU: Nepal is marking International Migrants Day for a week by organizing various programs.

Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security Yek Narayan Aryal said the main purpose of the celebration is to promote safe, secure and regular foreign labor migration and raise awareness among the stakeholders.

Aryal said Nepal is organizing the events for a week from December 16 with the theme of “Skill, capital and knowledge: Entrepreneurship, employment and national pride.”

Secretary Aryal said that the Ministry was deepening cooperation with the local levels through the Reintegration Programme (Operation and Management) Guidelines, 2079 for the sustainable reintegration of the returned migrant workers.

“Foreign employment has made a crucial contribution to make the country’s economy vibrant. However, going abroad for employment is out of compulsion. This should be ended,” he said.
