Dry port and industrial zone in government’s priority: Minister Badu

KANCHANPUR: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Dilendra Prasad Badu has said that the construction of the dry port and the industrial zone is high on the government’s priorities.

Addressing a press conference organized by the Ministry in Mahendranagar of Kanchanpur today, he asserted that initiatives have been taken ahead for the construction of the proposed Dodhara Chandani Dry Port at Kanchanpur and the Daiji Industrial Zone.

“Although proposed since long back and also after laying the foundation stone, the budget had not been managed for these two projects. These projects would be included in the budget for the coming fiscal year,” the Minister said.

Along with Minister Badu, former ministers Ramesh Lekhak, Narayan Prakash Saud, and Industry Secretary Ganesh Prasad Pandeya carried out onsite monitoring of the dry port and the Daiji Industrial Zone.

Minister Badu stated that the dry port construction was also India’s priority, adding that it was a project related to the importance of three-country trade among Nepal, India and China.

“The country will take a leap in the industrial sector on completion of these projects. 22 thousand people will get employment once the Daiji Industrial Zone is constructed and comes into operation,” he said.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry, Narayan Regmi said it is estimated that an investment of Rs 7 billion would be required in the first phase of construction of the dry port.
