‘Impeachment motion filed against CJ Rana to remain parliament’s property’

KATHMANDU: Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat Rojnatah Pandey said the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana will remain as the property of the parliament.

With the prorogation of the federal parliament session effective from Tuesday night, the impeachment filed against Chief Justice Rana will remain as the property of the parliament, said Pandey.

Even though an investigation into impeachment motion still continues and the investigation report can be submitted to the parliament, the impeachment motion will remain only as the property of the parliament with its prorogation.

He said the business advisory committee meeting will continue even after the prorogation of the parliament. The meeting will collect suggestions, allocate time for lawmakers to deliberate on the issue and their names prior to the meeting of the next session.

Similarly, many bills which are already tabled in the parliament, have been held back from being endorsed with the prorogation of the parliament.

Lawmakers will deliberate on the impeachment motion in the next session of the parliament and if two-thirds majority of the incumbent lawmakers vote against the motion, Chief Justice Rana will be relieved of his post.
