Suspended NTB CEO Regmi found guilty in gold smuggling



KATHMANDU: Suspended Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Dhananjay Regmi has been found guilty in a gold smuggling case.

As the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has been investigating against Regmi, Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office informed that he had been found guilty of smuggling gold revealing the suspended NTB CEO’s tainted past.

According to the letter sent by the customs office to the Ministry, Regmi had been found guilty of gold smuggling on December 22, 2017.

When Regmi arrived from Qatar Airways flight number QR730 carrying three pieces of gold, 30 grams of yellow metal was deemed illegal. He had been fined about Rs 140,000 in the case then.

A case had been registered against Regmi on December 22, 2017, at the customs office and he was declared guilty as per an order issued on September 6, 2020, imposing a fine of about Rs 140,000 against him.
