24 police and nine detainees test coronavirus positive in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: After the third wave of coronavirus pandemic started influencing people, 24 policemen working in different units in Kathmandu are found COVID-19 positive.

Similarly, nine detainees in different police offices have also tested coronavirus positive.

Hundreds of police in the capital were infected in the first and second phase of the Corona epidemic. Some were even killed.

As the infection is increasing, the risk in the police is also increasing, said SP Dinesh Raj Mainali of Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Circle.

“We are careful not to affect the police work even in the face of increasing risk. We are adjusting the duty in rotation system,” SP Mainali said, “Yet the cases of infection are on rise.”

He informed that more than 34 public places are broadcasting awareness materials to the citizens urging them to adhere to health safety protocols.

In recent times, out of total daily infection cases, 25-30 percent are from Kathmandu alone.

Police have urged the public not to carry on any risk-increasing activities.

“We have focused on public awareness campaign and have requested all  to fully comply with health safety standards,” SP Mainali said.
